1941-2023

FRANKFORT- George F. Chard, age 82, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

He was born in Ilion on November 10, 1941, a son of the late George and Josephine (Forte) Chard Sr. George graduated from Frankfort schools and would go on to earn his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Utica College. In January of 1961, he married the love of his life, Rosalie Rolchigo, a blessed union of 62 years. He served his country bravely in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1960 to 1964. George was a Senior Parole Officer for the NYS Division of Parole in Utica until his retirement. In his retirement years, he and his wife were active facilitators at the Good News Foundation and supported newcomers from the Refugee Center.

George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was long time member of the Herkimer County Republican Party, the Good News Foundation and a parishioner of Mt. Carmel Church. He was dedicated to his family, faith and community and loved studying and learning new things.

George is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie; children, Deborah Chard-Wierschem (Joseph) (Albany); George M. Chard (New Jersey); and three grandchildren, Christiana Wierschem (Quinn), Alyssa Wierschem and Ciara Wierschem; sister-in-law, Vivian (Paul) Tucci (New Jersey) and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Alexander Chard, Delores Servello and Phyllis Farewege.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday December 21, 2023, from 10 AM-11 AM at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, 203 Second Ave., Frankfort. Funeral services will commence immediately following visitation at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in George’s name may be made to the Good News Foundation of Utica (https://www.thegoodnewscenter.org/) or the Utica Refugee Center (https://www.thecenterutica.org/). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

George's family kindly asks that all family and friends wear a name tag, so they will know all your smiling faces!
