Paul and family,
So saddened by reading of the passing of Shelly. You may not remember me, but we got to know each other while working at Remington some years ago. I remembered that special Vanderwerken name. In our conversations I especially remember how proud you were of Shelly in her teaching profession.
I mainly wanted to express my deepest condolences over her passing and let you and the family know that you're all in my thoughts and prayers during what must be a most difficult time.

As a member of the RFA Class of 1988 I want to express my sincerest condolences to Shelly's family. It is very difficult to imagine another class member we will not get to see at the reunions as she was always a devoted attendee. We will honor her and those who have gone before us at future reunions and the memories they have left behind. A donation will be made to the Shelly Lynn Scholarship Fund. May her memory live on.

My condolences to all who are missing Shelly! She was in my Girl Scout troop at Denti E!elementary School in Rome NY with my daughter and several other girls in my daughter's class. Shelley was a wonderful Scout, very encouraging for the other girls! Her mother helped out with some of the badges. We lost touch over the years so I was very proud to see all the accomplishments she made in her life! God bless all who are grieving and may He provide Grace and Comfort for all!

She was one of my favorite teachers. She saw a talent for laguages, in me, that I didn't even know I had, and then helped me develop it. She helped send me to two French camps, and helped me lead the Foreign Language Club. I'm forever grateful for her encouraging my love of languages and culture, and international cuisine. I ended up learning several other languages, becoming a foreign missionary for quite some time, and married someone from another country. She has deeply impacted my life. My sincerest sympathies to her family and all who loved her.

Shelly and I had a special friendship that goes back to the days of grade school. We had some great talks and laughs as we walked home from school together. When life took us in different directions, I always kept Shelly in my heart. She was a wonderful kind spirit with a million dollar smile. I’ll always remember her with a smile.

From the moment we met at 5 years old, to today, Shelly, your friendship has been a blessing. Through each season of life, talking with you always felt like coming home. You have always had the gift to see and understand situations so clearly, and your wisdom has guided me through the years. You are a blessing to all who have been lucky enough to call you daughter, sister, friend, wife, daughter-in-law, mother, and teacher. Your legacy continues and we hold you in our hearts. May you be celebrating your well lived life, We love you.

Shelly, we are at a loss of words. You were taken away from the world at such a young age. You were one of the most beautiful, kind, intelligent woman I have ever met and you were an amazing mother. Emma has already made you so proud and she will continue to do so for the rest of her life. I know you’ll be with her every step of the way. You loved her so much as she loved you. You will be missed dearly. Rest in the most beautiful parts of heaven.
